Getting to Vietri sul Mare

Vietri (from "Veteri", its ancient Roman name) sul Mare ("on sea") is located within walking distance from Salerno and marks the beginning of the Amalfi coast. Short rides take to Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento, Pompei and Paestum; or by boat, to islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida.

How to reach the IIASS center in Vietri sul Mare (SA)

You will probably arrive by airplane either at Rome Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) or at Naples Airport (Capodichino). In both case you will find hereafter the instructions [A or B, respectively] to reach by train the Salerno Railway Station (Salerno). For those arriving by airplane at Naples Airport (Capodichino), there is a also a possibility to reach VIETRI city by BUS (instructions in C).

REACHING VIETRI city from Salerno Railway Station

Once in Salerno you may reach the IIASS center in (Vietri sul Mare or Marina) by bus:
- first, you can take either the bus n. 4 or n. 9 (scheduled any 20 minutes from 6:05 a.m to 22:45 p.m) from Salerno Railway Station Square to Vietri.
You should buy the ticket (about 0.80 Euro) at the railway station's newsagents or at the CSTP office.

For those booked at the hotel BAIA, either the busses stop just in front to the hotel, 200 meters before to reach Vietri City. You will see the hotel from the bus.
For those otherwise booked you should get down at the bus stop in front to a crazy building called “CERAMICA SOLIMENE”. Cross the street and you are in Vietri City.

To reach Vietri Marina from VIETRI City you have two options:

a. You can take a second bus. In such case you should reach Piazza Matteotti (Matteotti Square) walking for about 200 meters from the bus stop and take a bus [8:00 => 21:00] to Vietri Marina. You don’t need to buy a second ticket (however the bus to Vietri Marina is scheduled each hour). It will take less than 5 minutes to reach the bus stop just in front the hotels LA LUCERTOLA OR BRISTOL. Next stop is just near to the IIASS center.

b. You can also walk down to Vietri Marina taking either Via Colombo or Via Pellegrino. Via Colombo is more comfortable if you want first reach the hotels BRISTOL and LA LUCERTOLA. Via Pellegrino should be preferred for those booked in the hotel VIETRI or VALLE delle NAJADI.
Another possibility is to take a taxi (the cost is about 13,00 Euro) from Salerno Railway Station Square directly to the Hotels or IIASS center.


A. From Rome Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) to Salerno Railway Station
You have the following two steps.

A1. From Rome Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) to Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini)
You may reach Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) from the Rome Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) by train; a taxi is not recommended because of the distance. The Railway Station is inside the Airport. Take the train to Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini): the ticket must be bought at the FS office (about 9,00 Euro) and stamped at the yellow machines before getting on the train. At the same office you can also buy the ticket from Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno).

A2. From Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno)
Once in Roma Railway Station (Roma Termini) get a train to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno).

B. From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno)
You have the following two steps:

B1. From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale)
At Naples Airport (Capodichino) you may take the bus (orange bus) just in front of the Airport entrance (every 15 minutes): the tickets (about 1,00 Euro) are sold inside the Airport at the newsagents. You have to get down at "Piazza Garibaldi" (Garibaldi Square) and walk a little bit through the square towards the Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale). Another possibility is to take a taxi.

B2. From Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale) to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno)
Once in Napoli Railway Station (Napoli Centrale) get a train to Salerno Railway Station (Salerno).

C. From Naples Airport (Capodichino) to VIETRI city

From Naples Airport (Capodichino) you may take the bus (orange bus) just in front of the Airport entrance (every 15 minutes): the tickets (about 1,00 Euro) are sold inside the Airport at the newsagents. You have to get down at " Immacolatella Porto” - not far from the Maschio Angioino. There, there are regular fares of the SITA company from the centre of Napoli (Immacolatella Porto) to Vietri. The line is Napoli-Salerno via Nocera (that must not be confused with Napoli-Salerno via Autostrada that does not stop in Vietri). Ask the driver, once in Vietri city, to stop you in front of CERAMICA SOLIMENE building. Cross the street and you are in Vietri City.
To reach Vietri Marina read the instructions above. To reach the Hotel BAIA just walk down toward Salerno for about 200 meters.

How to reach the School location
· The School will be held at the International Institute for Advanced Scientific Studies "Eduardo R. Caianiello" - IIASS .
· The IIASS is located at Marina di Vietri sul Mare, that can be esaily reached by walk (5 minutes) from the Vietri City (see the map below)
